Running goot. (detail update)

Everything just seems to be working at the moment. Played about 5 hours since the mtt win on monday and am up ~$900, in 30sngs. I'm running above average, but it's nice to have some solid wins to get me back on my feet. And I'm playing quite well for the most part which is nice! Took some shots at the $100 sngs at pacific and AP. Wont play all that many at pacific due to lack of rakeback/bonus but the play is sooo weak-tight - it seems very profitable. Though having said this... played 3, won 1 (they pay 3 places, so that means I'm down a bit). I doubt i'll be frequenting the $100 games at AP anytime soon. Generally full of solid regulars, but I've jumped into 2 games of unknowns and took a 1st and a 2nd, so I'll take the odd shot when the games look soft. HU been going well too, not been tilting much like I often did a while back, on a nice run at the moment.

SO yeah, everything's going great, perfect timing for me as a 'return' to poker, and before xmas!

Since 19/11
Sngs: 330
Amount won(sngs): $2870 --- now not inlcluding rakeback/bonus

Amount won(mtts): $3512.25
ROI: 668.36% (:D)

Total: $6643.25
Time: 55hrs
$/hr: 120.79

Probably my best month-long period of results so far, seeing as I haven't played much. Obv the mtt roi isnt anywhere near sustainable, and I doubt the sng one is either, but hopefully it wont drop too much as the variance evens out.

Happy days!

Another great day. Played quite a few sngs, made about $300. Was playing some mtts, got unlucky in some, but also playing the $50 6k at absolute which I play fairly often, and have taken down before. This was like the reverse of the 20k on thursday; the structure of this tourney is great, deepstacked with lots of room to play, so I had very few coinflips, only a few against shortstacks (most of which I lost) and one crucial one in the final 4 TT>AJ. Felt I played very well for the most part and had the chiplead from the last 18 until the end. Bit of a shakey start to HU since I started with a 4.5:1 chiplead and we were even after 20 hands or so, but managed to regroup and take it down for $1840! So a very good few days for poker :)

I now have nearly $6k online which feels great, but I'll probably withdraw some, I'm getting into the investment side of things now and I don't want to keep so much online when it could be in a savings account earning money. As einstein said 'the most powerful force in the universe is compound interest'

Since 19/11
Sngs: 301
Amount won(sngs): $2341.5
Amount won(mtts): $3512.25

I've played 50hrs since 19/11, so my hourly is over $115/hr which is pretty disgusting! Poker is so great at times like this. I must remember these times when I go on 20-buyin downswings.

Good day.

Best day I've had in a while, poker-wise. Had a nice run in the sngs, winning $140 in 30mins playing hu sngs before uni. Then came back and won another ~200. While playing these was also playing the 20k gauranteed at pacific. I ran pretty well, winning almost every race and was a big chippo from about 50 left, which continued all the way to the final table. I then went pretty card dead, and stayed about the same in chips until the final 5. Dipped fairly low, then won a key double up 99>aj (ace on turn, 9 on river!) 2 got knocked out, at 3 handed the blinds were high, the big chippo was pushing every hand and I was getting rags. Made a standard push from button, chippo called, I lost. That was that. But still! 3rd/364 for $2000 isn't bad at all - i'm certainly not complaining! I had some pretty good luck to get that far.
A nice boost just before xmas shopping :)

Swingy

Had a bad day on monday - down $550! Played 10 sngs in one session and lost every single one, didnt run much better the rest of the day. Played the $55 30k at pacific and came 23rd/500+ for $195. Meh. Yesterday had a fairly good day. Was up about $100 then was just playing some $20 and $50 HU sngs while watching HSP, and did well and made back lots of what I lost on monday. I might play some more HU sngs, I think if I play properly I could beat them for a decent %. I actually think my HU game at the end of sngs is one of my strengths (e.g. since I started: played 31 $33 6-man games, I've cashed in 15, won 12 - %65 roi sustainable?!?) but that's usually in low M situations; when there's lots of play, like in hu sngs, I tend to get FPS and make silly mistakes. But when I'm playing lots of tables/watching HSP I just play automatically and that works much better.

Just played an hour today and ran very well, won about $400. Absolute roll stands at $2,270, which is nice. It'd be lovely if I could get it to 3k by the end of the year. I doubt it though, have loads of work/xmas to do. I also deposited $600 at pacific - felt like playing some mtts. I've forgotten how fishy the games are there. Such weak fields, the 'big' guaranteed mtts have quite a lot of value. I'm itching for my next big cash too :)

Anyways, poker's going good for now.

Running well

Had a good day today, played for a couple of hours and made ~$300. Got lucky in parts, played ok.

Not doing the daily sng updates like before, partly because I'm tracking my results differently (by game, so as to better find out which games I have a higher roi in) but also because it lets me be less short-term results-based. Before if I had a losing day I might be upset/annoyed, but this way I see the results on a more long-term basis.

Also spent $55 on an mtt.

Standardissimo

As usual after a big day I had a bad day yesterday losing ~$180, but today I won it back and a bit more, so no damage done. Played 150 games, and have an overall ROI of 17%+ (including bonus, not including rakeback) so I'm obviously happy with that. My hourly is good too, around $35/hr, especially since I was breakeven after my first 50 games. I suppose it helps that I'm usually at least 5-6 tabling, 7 if there are available games, whereas before I'd be 4-5 tabling usually. I think the 12-tabling turbos experiment helped in that respect, it feels very relaxed - I have time to make notes on players and make better plays this way. I feel I'm playing ok, not great, but enough for now - I feel myself getting back into the rhythm (Sp?) of things which is nice. Found myself tilting slightly more than I used to, but thats the great thing about sngs, if you bustout due to a beat, you're no longer in it to make bad plays. And I never feel like playing after a few beats in sngs, so I just take a break. (or do some of the mountain of uni work I have do...) And once I've played a few hundred more games I feel I'll definately be back to my old pokery self. Yay!

I'll do a full sng update in a few days.

on the up

Crushed the sngs today! Mainly because I ran like jesus, but still feels good to book a (very) solid win. Played for 3 hrs (~20games) and made ~$700. Almost doubled the bankroll at absolute! So that's awesome. I'm now properly rolled for the $71 games. Took a few shots at them when I was at around ~$1000-1200, but ran amazingly in them (played 2 9-man games, won both, played 4 6-man, won 2) so that helped. Anyways, long story short, I'm happy about poker. I'm looking forward to being robusto ($3000 would be great) and feeling like I did over the summer about poker in general. Oh man, just looking back and I used to have 8k online! Man I want to be there.

Anyways, gonna keep bit of a record of things again, structure is good for me. Plus running tallies are fun!

Long time no post!

Howdy.

Been pretty busy with uni work/socialising and any free time I have i've been playing poker - no time for blogs! Been pretty weird pokerwise. Played the turbos for a little while, didnt make/lose much from the last post. Then kinda went all tilty for a little while... playing cash (NO BEN, NO!) and some turbos out of my roll. Don't really know what the result was overall... I know I had 700$ at stars, and withdrew my last $500, $1000 at pacific and withdrew the last $300 when I realised things were getting a little out of hand. I think I lost another few hundred in there somewhere. Low point was losing a $1200 pot. Flopped the nut straight, other guy pushed on flush draw. Hit of course. *shrug* Didn't feel tilty or angry after that, just kinda numb.

Then again, I withdrew $500 'profit' around this time from messing on cash table at absolute with a spare $20 i had after cashing it all out, so I dont think I lost all too much...maybe. I sort of just realised 'this is not good' and withdrew everything I could to make sure it didn't get any worse. That was a few weeks ago now. Took a week off to sort myself out a bit, and then decided to go back to a winning formula - i redeposited on absolute (scammage seems to have blown over somewhat) to 6-7 table sngs, with rakeback and bonus. Feeling alot more steady/normal. All good.

Also, did the messing around with 20$ left on stars and also ran that up to $500 (in an hour!) withdrew that, then did it again to $380, withdrew that. So thats money safely in my bank, which is cool. So since my last post, i'm probably up actually. I'd estimate tiltage probably cost $1100, but I've made $1380 from cash table messing (in about 4hrs...) It's kinda cool, cos it was literally leftover change in my account, and an hour later I have food money for the next month!

Feeling alot better when playing the sngs, just like it was really. I'm down $75ish, but am certainly running under expectation. I only have about $750 online right now, which is probably a good thing as a precaution, and I'm playing mainly $20 and $30 games, which I'm definately rolled for. Just going to grind them out a bit for a while until I get robusto again. Ahhh, the days when I had $4/5k in my absolute account alone. That's what I'd like to get back to.

*Philosophical self reflection warning*
Felt like I learnt quite alot about what prolonged tilt is like. It's scary. Am glad that I withdrew everything and got my head sorted before playing again. I also think I learned change is not condusive to poker success for me. Playing different structures/buyins/etc just gets me flustered. I'm thinking i'm not really cut-out for the long-term grind. Perhaps I should just play mtts when I feel like it and leave it at that. Every now and then I have a big score - but it's not like i'm grinding the mtts at all, i barely play any. Try and satellite into the bigger mtts/live events maybe. Meh, I don't know. I'm happy grinding the sngs for now. We'll see. Maybe I'll just continually deposit $20 and withdraw $500 an hour later. If only it were that simple! Seriously though, shortstacking against other shortstackers, and continually moving up limits and finding more shortstackers seems crazily profitable. Though I probably just ran like jesus and it would fail dismally if I tried it again.

Anyways, I need sleep.

Turbos suck!! (read: I am variance's bitch)

Sigh.

Was doing real good, up to ~$700. Then played 20+ today and cashed in 3. 3!!!!!! And only on the cheap ones, lost all the $25+ games I played. BOO!

Turbo tastic

Been carrying on with the turbos, tried 12-tabling today! Was mucho fun. Timed out a few times, but that was most mostly because I was talking to people and eating. Also running pretty good, broken almost exactly even on the 16$ games, but have an ROI of 70%+ (albiet only after 16 games) for the 27$s. Going to carry on playing about half and half 16 and 27$, and after a few hundred games, if all is going well, I'll move up to the 27$ games permanently and mix in some 35$ games (think thats the next level).

Reached silver star on stars. wooo. I'm pretty sure I could make platinum star without too much trouble, ~35 27$ games a day for 30 days. Thats just 12 tabling for like 3 hours a day. If I had a lot of time on my hands and did that for 10 months, I'd be supernova! But I doubt that'll happen anytime soon; uni work coming in thick and fast, barely getting in 5-10hrs a week. Maybe if I have loads of time I'll go crazy for 5-6 months and then have 6-8 months of freerolls and such. Then agin I should probably go to fulltilt for rakeback and bonus, probably end up being worth more. Aah, decisions decisions.

Played a live home game organised by some students. £5 buyin, 8 players (ish, maybe 7...can't remember) Was good fun, people playing heart-warmingly badly. Got lucky, beating TT with A7s near the bubble, and once I got those chips, it was kind of over...Not meaning to be arrogant or anything, but it was a fairly easy win from there. One other guy said he plays 50$ and 100$ HU sngs on PKR, and does well, reads 2+2 etc, says he often 10+ tables, so I assume he's pretty good. I doubt he was lying. He bust out early though, (trying to get too fancy, tut tut) so I never really saw if he was any good.

Going to a live game in manchester in a few weeks, meeting up with some PFUers, should be good fun, and with 10% getting a free seat to the amateur poker championship in manchester in december.

hy, that's about tout. Hasta next time. (woo, 4 languages in 1 sentence!)

...some days.

Having fun at uni, not played a great deal of poker after my big win a while ago. played a few sngs and won a bit, donked off some playing cash. (STOP PLAYING CASH GAMES!!!!) Decided I'm going to get into crazy multitabling turbo sngs. Inspired by a sick sng player I've read about, 20+ tabling the 60$ turbos on stars, aiming for 25$k this month! Plays like 300 a day. Insane. So anyways, I had a go at 9 tabling, which went fine - physically keeping up I was fine, and feel I could handle quite a few more. Whether I could do so profitably is another matter. But I felt I played well for the most part. So I'm going to stop doing the old sng updates, and replace them with the new turbo thingys. Just for a while, see how it goes. If I decide I want to do it 'properly' I'll probably go over to fulltilt for bonus+rakeback, since playing low roi/huge volume type things would be greatly improved with some rakeback.

Also withdrawn most of my roll of AP. The scandal has been blown wide open, and while I doubt they're going to go bust, I want to be sure. Not to mention they handled it all very badly, and I'm not sure I want to give my custom to the site.

New results, starting off with mostly $16 9 man, with some $27 games too.

Days 39-...45?

Boom! I've been in sheffield for 2 weeks now. Been going ok, settled in fine, nice flatmates, course/classes seem fine so far.

Not sure how many days I've played! Haven't been keeping proper records, though I know how much I've spent/won. Started off pretty bad... combination of playing at a new site with games that I'm not really used to (turbos/rebuys) or playing different types at once - playing rebuys whilst playing 70$ sngs can end in disaster! Also a few nights opening up a few games after a few drinks... Basically it all led to me not playing great, though I wasn't running well either. It also led to me losing $1000+. Eek! Oddly, I feel like when i'm just playing 1 or 2 tables, my mtt game is better than it's ever been. I really feel like I'm making some advanced plays that are based on reads/maths, rather than making random moves and hoping they work which I think tends to happen when I'm playing 6 tables with 3+mtts. It's especially satisying when I'm about to fold/check and then I suddenly realise what hand(s) makes most sense (ie I can narrow my opponents range consideraly) and so can call/bluff accordingly. I mean, that's kind of the basis of poker, but I feel like I'm getting better at it, and am applying it to complex/crucial situations well. Yay!
Got deepish in a few mtts playing like this, got unlucky/coolered in some...But then... played a 5$ rebuy. It lasted 8hrs so I wont give a desription, but I felt I played really well from ~100 left. Had a few key double ups, was fairly short with 2 tables but manages to survive and went into the final table in 7th. A huge double up with 8 left with A6 holding vs kqs put me into contention, then took out a few players, and we ended up 3 handed. Another massive double with aces put me equal with the chippo, and the shortie quickly bust. I actually feel I was outplayed for parts of the HU, and ended up getting it allin with top pair against top pair with a slightly better kicker. But I happily settled for 2nd, getting ~$3900. weeeeee!

Played a 7hr live cash session too, making £40(~$80) which was good fun. I was thinking these guys would be great as they played alot. I was wrong. Some of them were ok, but fairly bad for the most part. Oh, my favourite hand: 1st hand of a round of omahaha. opponent says hes never played omaha before.
opponent raises preflop, a few callers, I call with junk (AJT6s or something) cos i'm a fish. Flop comes AJJ. Villain bets, I called with the flopped boat. Turn in a queen, opponent shoves, I call, youknow, cos I'm a fish. He obv turns over aces, but the river brings a lovely 1 outer - a jack. Ship the £70 pot! Hehe.

Anyways, work's getting harder so probably not much serious poker for a while. And I'll either be grinding sngs on absolute, or playing the odd mtt, not both at once! New BR is -$2475 that I withdrew.

Days 36-38

Well, off to uni tomorrow! Going ooop north to sheffield. Looking forward to it, had a fairly quiet gap year, so it'll be nice to be busy again. Probably wont be playing much poker for a while though, so probably wont be many updates for a little while. Seems like a lively poker scene in sheffield though, so I'll probably be playing more live, which is good as I've been meaning to improve my live game anyway (reads, etc)

Deposited on stars, and played some of the 180man sngs, (12$ turbos and $4.5 non-turbos) and some mtts. Lots more choice which is nice. Came 5th in a $12 turbo, cashed in one of the bigger $55 mtts, had a decent stack but made a silly move just before the bubble leaving me low. I think that hand made me realise a big leak of mine - making too many moves. Every hand I'm thinking 'how can I win this hand?' That's all very well and good, but it kind of blinds me sometimes when I obviously cant win. It's like I'm trying to get too fancy, thinking 'oh he's playing this board like he has the trips so obviously he must be bluffing' - sometimes I need to play a bit more simply.

Had a nice 400$ mtt score a few days ago, but had a bad sng day so was breakeven really. Then had another bad sng day (looks like my upswing is over!) and lost ~$250. Had a ok few hours last night, booking a small win which was nice seeing as it'll be the last poker I play in a while. New BR updated with +$1200 I've put on stars. Have to deposit in $600 chunks which is kinda annoying, but oh well.

So...I'll update in a while. Adios.

Day 34+35

Good days, made back most of what I donked off playing cash, and only played 7 sngs. woo.

Entered an mtt 10 mins before it started last night, and fell asleep before it began! So that was a watse of 22$. Oh well, falling asleep probably saved me money in the long run - I was (obviously) tired and was thinking of playing the $162 75k at AP, so probably would've lost more than $22!

Got around to withdrawing money from AP, some for stars and some for my bank - the £700 I deposited a few months ago. Got about $3k to put on stars (decide on stars as they seem to have a decent range and they take moneybookers which is what I use for ap). Just looking at my stats and my mtt roi has nearly fallen below my sng roi which is silly...and makes me think about whether withdrawing over 2/3 of my AP bankroll used for sngs to be used soley for mtts is a good idea... I think it is though, I know my mtt game is decent, and with so much extra choice I'll be able to play mtts that are more suited to me instead of weird ones that I play cos they're all that's available.
Withdrew now partly because of the scandels at AP at the moment...seems more real than any other rigging/conspiracy thing that has happened before. It doesnt really affect me directly, (not to say it wouldn't be bad for online poker in general) but just in case it all goes crazy and AP goes bust or something I decided I'd feel more comfortable if I didnt have my entire roll there. And anyway, I've been meaning to for ages, its about time I got around to it.

New BR includes the $4500 withdrawal from AP.

Day 33

Man I REALLY need to stop playing cash games. Like, forever. Or at least until I have a serious head shift - it seems the moment I open up a cash table I go on crazy monkey tilt and spew chips in every direction. Of course when you're 5 tabling with $200 on each, the spews add up pretty quicky ... Not a good day. So yeah, pretty disapointed in myself really.

I think basically it feels too much like gambling. I would never be able to gamble 'casually' - I'm fairly certain I have/would have some sort of gambling problem, but it's like alcoholics who never drink, I know its there, so I will never gamble. Period. And while I know I can win at cash games (and thats not a gamble) seeing actual money there on the table still feels like blackjack or something. Even when I win, I'm tilting - not just in the way I play but in how I feel; it's just not good for me at the moment.

Played some sngs and mtts this evening and dropped ~100 on them. meh.

Perhaps dropping below 20K again will serve as a reminder not to waste my hard earned dollars. *sniff*

Day 30 - w00t! - update

Well, I'm pretty chuffed - I've made it to $20k total profit! Wooo! Not bad in ~4 months of playing.

Another great day for sngs, running crazily good in them at the moment. Had big stacks in 2 mtts, bubbled one, was chippo in the other, then lost KK < QTo and AK < AQ in MASSIVE pots, then shoved AJ and ran into QQ, and of course, failed to suckout. So that was pretty sickening. Also played a few turbo donkaments yesterday, but that was it, so I'll just add that to today.

sng mission so far (all stats since 09/08/07):
Played: 340
Result: +$3740
ROI: 28.9% (not including bonus and rakeback)
Bonus: $350
Rakeback: tbc. (probably ~$350)

Sweeeeet! More than doubled my sng total in this set of 100 games. Probably partly to do with moving up to the 65+6 games and I rarely play the 30s anymore - thankfully my roi hasn't suffered (yet)

Mtts:
Played: 81

ROI: 41.%

Meh. Should've had at least one decent score tonight.

Total profit: $5248.5 (including some rakeback...)

So a very good 1/2 month. Played lots which helps, but can't deny I've been running super good! I've now got enough of a BR to take out the 1400$ I deposited a month or so back, and move a chunk over to stars/fulltilt (when will i decide?!?!) and still have a decent roll at AP. BOOM!

Woooo! Officially my best day since I got back from France. over $900 in sngs, and just ended with a $700 mtt score which actually only brings the mtt total to $250, but still!

I am super confused with my stats though due to me losing those days. I think my actual BR is $115 less than what these stat say because I forgot to take of the cash game loss a few days ago... basically I'll add the $$ to the totals, but count up the BR manually, so they may not match up exactly.

Oh and $75 worth of bonus added from the last few days.

day 27,28,29...

Was a pretty crazy day on day 27 (whenever that was...losing track of things) probably played for like 15 hours (not joking). Played a 9.5hr session, mostly 4+ tabling, in the evening/night with 1 10 minute break. Pretty intense! Also lost my records for the last 2 days, which makes it hard to work out what happened! Basically, I think I was down $300 on sng during the day, then made it back with mtts in the night...had a $365 result. meh, not sure...have a nagging feeling my rakeback has been credited and thats why my account is looking healthier than expected! In which case i'm even on the last 2 days, not up 200.

Today is going good, up ~$300 so far, though i've spent $100 on sats to a $96 tourney which is extremely frustrating!

Yesterday I played a live tournament. It was nice to not play online, needed a break after the crazy few days, had burnt myself out a bit. Was a deepstack game, ~30 runners, 10k starting stack, 30min levels starting at 25-50. £30 buyin. Real good fun, a refreshingly good structure from what I'm used to live, and allowed for a lot of play.
Started off well, taking a few mediumish pots, (including a checkraise bluff and a very sexy bluff in a big pot against the chippo who was play very laggy) Built my stack up to 20k in the first few hours. Then there was a dead patch for ~an hour. Then got AA,AK and AK in a row. Won a small pot with the aa, lost a big pot with the ak and won the blinds with the 2nd ak. BOO! So that sucked a bit, then lost a few small pots, and was down to 15k, with blinds at 400/800. Then they said in just over an hour there would be a break for 90mins, and I decided i didnt want to be hanging around for ages with a small stack and then bust just after the break, so decided to gamble alittle for the big stack/bust option. Started off badly, losing a flip AT<88, bringing me down to 7k. Few hands later, with blinds at 600/1200 im in the bb with 9d4d, 3 limpers. I check, flop comes 3d8xJd. I'm 1st to act, I shove for 5k into the 5k pot. Button calls with kjo, turn is Kd (hooray!) river is a j (boo!). Still, happy with the play, I have fold equity and if I get called I'm getting 2:1 - ie, even money, and since I'm gambling for a big stack then I'll happily take an even money shot.
Happy with my play overall, twice I bluffed when I knew I shouldn't and got punished, but nothing major. Felt like I had very good reads of the whole table and could play accordingly, was a bit of a revelation actually. Don't get much chance for in-depth reads when 6-tabling sngs! But had some very precise information which was very useful. It's amazing how much people are willing to give away about their game totally willingly...had one old geezer who won the first pot with quad 4s...holding 43o after limping utg! In a later hand he won with a straight, on the turn he had the OESD and after the hand was over he said, 'I would've called any bet on the turn, you bet 1k and I call [into the 400 pot]' Sure enough he stationed his way out pretty fast :) Anyway, mucho fun, hope to do it again sometime.

I'll do my stats later, probably will play some more tonight.

Day 26

Donked off $115 last night playing cash. I was tired/bored/tilting, bluffing off $50 twice when I knew it wouldnt work...was watching the episode of HSP where they pay Mike matusow $4000 to stay, and he bluffs off $115k within the next few hours - felt like him!

On the upside, today went well, I remembered to check the rakeback, and added that to last month, and my stats chart is looking happy. Seriously, rakeback and bonus rock. Nearly $500 free money last month, and only played 20 days. $6k free a year! Up $800 on the month already, over $3.3k since my sng mission started, and my roi is at 24.5%. I'm a happy bunny.

EDIT: played for a few hours tonight, got murdered at the sngs. Loads of beats, didnt play particularly well. Luckily I won a donkament for $450 so I'm up ~$220 on the evening. Just sitting on a .5/1$ table with some PFU members, congrats to aaron and cottlad, both raking in nice mtt wins today!

EDIT 2 Ended up playing for a few hours. Was playing hyper LAG as was only playing the 1 table, and was getting bored despite the great table banter. Quickly dropped a buyin in several medium pots, and realised trying to play every pot and outplay my fellow forumites is silly, since they're all good, solid players, so I used my image, and got paid off, doubling with KK vs 89 on a 9 high flop. Nothing major happened, won a decent pot and then got disconnected, but it was finishing anyway. Good fun! Up $75, ~$300 total for the evening. Will add it to tomorrow's results, am too lazy.

Day 25

Another good day, though it could have easily been a bad day... Started off well, being up ~$150 after an hour. Then played for another hour or two and broke even. Then had lunch and played a bunch of games, including 2 $65+6s. Was looking bleak as I busted out of all them except 2, but I managed to win the last 2, a luckily they were a 40$ and a 65$ game, so those 2 results were worth over $400. Would've been quite different if I'd won 2 $20 games and lost the rest! Bust out of the other $65 game in brutal fashion - KK < K9s and lost a TON of flips in a row, which wasn't great. But hey, I'd take today's result everyday happily.

Oh and I played a $10 PLO sng too, was madness. 3 people allin on first hand! I can see why people say there's lots of money to be made in that game...I just need to learn how to play it and I'll be set.

Day 24

Went camping over the weekend in the gower, which was lovely...until I woke up on the first morning with the flu :( FLU-urns! So we came home early. That was sad. Felt terrible yesterday, but feeling a bit better today. Even managed to play a bit of pokey ;)

Decided to play lower buy-in games incase I sucked due to flu. Turns out being ill makes me a poker supergenius. Several classic hands, my favourite being cracking aces with my 23o (not AIPF, though that would have taken the biscuit), though there was one where some guy thought his A8o was good enough to call a rerereraise allin after min raising utg. My aces held-yay! So yeah, ran good overall, a few unlucky hands, but I played 11, cashed in 7 and won 3, so I'm not complaining.

Day 22+23

As seems to be usual, after a good day I have a bad day. Was annoying too, amassed a top 5 stack in a $3 rebuy with 50 left, 36 pay, pretty much gauranteed FT, but had to leave! Still, blinded out in 14th for a whopping $36. Thankfully, today was much better, earning back the $287 loss and a little more, so all's well. Took my first shot at the $65+6 sngs, seem fairly similar, though a few more regulars. Ooh, I'm 170th on the monthly tournament leaderboard! Havent been playing any mtts there either really, so not bad.

tbh, I've probably made it to my $2500-2600 goal; the rakeback is about $230 i think. I'm on $2350.5. Yay!

Day 21 - update

Another good day today. Started off not so great, being down ~$100 after a few hours in the afternoon, but just played for 3hrs this evening and today turned out to be my best day for sngs: ~$500 profit. Down $115 on mtts, but still a good day. I think the competition is definately softer in the evening, more regulars in the afternoon, and if I'm not playing my A/B game then I don't think I can beat the games.(then again my C game is terrible) But tonight I was 7 tabling at some points and it just seemed to go well...but perhaps I just had a good run of cards, who knows :)

Good time to post a stat update, as they are looking pretty nice at the moment!
sng mission so far (all stats since 09/08/07):
Played: 204
Result: +$1409.5
ROI: 19.5% (not including bonus and rakeback)
Bonus: $185
Rakeback: tbc. (probably ~$185)

So a much better result for this 100 sngs...though most of that was literally today's result.

Mtts:
Played: 37
Result: $731
ROI: 69.4%

Not so good on the mtt front, actually lost ~$100 since last time.

Total profit: $2284.5 (+rakeback)

Days 19+20

Not a good day yesterday, played for 3 hours and ended up down ~200$. Started off today badly too, losing another quick $200, but played a longish session this evening which brought the sng total for the day up to +$50 and had a decent mtt FT for ~$400, which was nice, seeing as my BR had dropped to lower than it was a week ago.

I've decided to not count the ~$400 I have at sunpoker and the $130 at titan as my overall bankroll, since I wont/cant/cant be bothered to cash out/redeposit at them, so I may well regard them as sort of fun money. Maybe i'll have a go at some more expensive mtts at sun. I'm not going to waste it, I'm just not going to record the progress on those sites, since I wont be playing much. So new BR is -$530.

Days 15-18

Been a bit busy lately. Was my birthday yesterday, yay! Also my laptop came, which I'm using right now, and it's great.

Haven't played a great deal. Been playing a bit of cash, taking a LAG approach and has been great fun, at bootcamp there was a talk from Neil Channing which made me realise what proper LAG play is. AP has 200bb max buyin NL cash tables so its great for deepstacked lag play. Had 3 or 4 quick winning sessions, and then lost a $50 buyin calling allin HU thinking I had A5 on a A5T flop, when actually I had A3, grrrrrrrr. But still, am going to carry on experimenting.

Also, i checked my various online accounts and I have slightly less than I thought (the numbers I used at the beginning were approx.) so i've updated the new bankroll section.

Bootcamp report/Day 13

What bootcamp report? you ask. I'll tell you.

Played a satellite to the 888.com bootcamp, down to final 4, 3 seats paid, I lose AIPF with AKs vs A5. BOOOOO! Was gutted, $1500 package, 'twas brutal. However, an amazingly generous forum memeber gave me their seat as they couldn't go - (thanks again dave!) It was at the hilton (I got free accommodation, yay) so lots of fancy free stuff to steal. The bootcamp itself...I enjoyed it, but I didn't learn anything. Well, a few things about live tells, and how to calculate my confidence interval, but thats about it. I think it was too simplistic for more experienced/advanced players, but it seemed alittle too advanced for beginners. But hey, what am I complaining about, I didn't pay a penny! And I had a good time.

Bust out early from the $2000 seat freeroll(ie winner takes all) they held, with AK vs KT, he hit 2 pair. 'He' called a 3xbb raise from utg, then I reraised, and got a caller. Original raiser folded, and 'he' called. With KT. Was he listening at all to the lectures during the day?!?! There was one specifically on position and how calling big bets OOP is a big leak. Surprise surprise, he went on to win the whole thing. 3 handed it was Mr. donkeyfish and 2 other good players I know and respect. But what's skill in the face of classless luck? Twice HU 'he' caught a miracle river (once calling an allin with 86) Was sickening. He later said he thought he played 'really well'. Guess you just can't teach some people anything.

Maybe I learnt lots without realising anyway, because I had my 2nd best day (since i started the sng mission 10 days ago) and played the 2nd least amount of sngs, despite being rivered with 2 and 3 outers several times at crucial points.

Day 12 - 1st week summary

Had a good start, up $200 in 2 hours. Then it all went down hill and I had 7/8 sngs in a row with only 1 cash. BOOOOurns. Made a little with a small mtt cash. Reached 100 sngs today since I got back from france (on 119) and if i'd stopped this morning would've had an ROI of about 18%, but now it's ~11.5%, I need to enter some numbers to get the exact %. Still, happy with that, read a post from the 2+2 forums saying...

"...a very good player could probably expect to have the following ROIs:
$3.40s - 18%
$6s - 16%
$16s - 14%
$27s - 12%
$60s - 10%
$114s - 8%
$225s - 6%
$335s+ - 4%

...These are based on Stars turbos. If you play a non-turbo structure, generally your ROI might increase a few points (due to the slower structure), but at the expense of your hourly rate (again, due to the slower structure)..."

So a longterm ROI of 10-12% would be great if I can maintain it. 117 sngs isnt much of a sample size by any means, so we'll see. A 40+4 sng is also worth 1$ of bonus and ~$1.3 of rakeback, which is nearly 6% roi in itself, so just breaking even wouldn't be bad.

So... sng mission so far (all stats since 09/08/07):
Played: 119
Result: +$464.5
ROI: ~11.5% (not including bonus and rakeback)
Bonus: $100
Rakeback: tbc. (probably ~$100)

Buyin: 25+2

Been a while since I won one, so nice to get another under my belt. Opponent HU was disconnected so I had the easiest win ever!

Not so good on the sng front...the games were so juicy this evening! I've not played much in the evening and I had no idea the standard in play differed so much. Unfortunately I couldn't take advantage of it and ended down about $80, but I'm definately going to be playing more at this time. The standard during the day tends to be quite good, with lots of regulars, but it was a proper fish tank tonight.

OH WAIT!!!! + $5 bonus. I rock.

Day 8 (yesterday)

Didn't play on saturday as I was visiting family. Did my first proper 6 tabling which went fine, though several times I was doing well in 4 of them, only to bubble in 3 and just cash in 1, which was frustrating, Felt I was playing well but had some fairly bad luck. I ended up about 70$ after 5 hours, which wasnt great, but at least I was up. Then came back at 1am for the 70k at AP that I had a free seat for. That tourney seems to be cursed for me. Quickly lost 700ish on various hands, got KK, riased and took the blinds, then QQ< KK (guy slowplayed the kings) What was worse though was the other games i was playing at the time. Didn't play great, guess I was tired, but ran pretty badly too. My mtt record has been poor the last few days, played 10 and only 1 tiny cash. Anyway, I ended down $70 on the day. Sigh.

Started using a great spreadsheet that was made by a member of a forum I read, the spreadsheet can be found here. I had to change it a bit but its very useful.

Today sucked. Didn't play well, but didnt run well either. I played for 3-4 hrs in the morning and saw I wasnt playing well so took a big break, and came back fresh and ready to play. That was good. Then lost a load more. That was bad. Felt like I was playing my B or C game most of the time, coupled with a few unlucky hands - bubbled 3 sngs in 5 mins at one point.

Day 6

Got up early and went straight into 5/6 tabling sngs for an hour. I ran gooood and was up nearly $300. Played 3 more hours since then and made a tiny bit, few unlucky hands, but mainly im running ok. Only released $10 bonus, but towards the end I was playing more $20 games because they were the only ones filling up (so i was paying less rake, therefore less bonus). I'm stopping for the day now and its 3pm, so when I get my laptop I'll be able to play more. 20+ should be easy.

Happy with my play for the most part, although in the 2nd hour i got kind of confused with the tables and made a few silly plays. Mainly though im finding 5 tabling easy - i used to be 2/3 tabling whilst checking forums/talking on msn, etc, and just focusing on poker is much better. Still, got here in one piece.

My computer has officially exploded (was hoping it might work after 6 weeks off, alas) so I'm not going to be able to play as much as I thought, at least until I get my laptop.

Thought I'd try and play a few games on the mac, with pacific's online client. Can't be that bad, right? WRONG! Worst. Thing.

Tuesday 7 August 2007

Bonjour!

Salut, tout le monde!

I'm in Nice and have a few hours to kill before my flight home.
--->Blogaments!
Had a great time, and very useful; was scary how much french I'd forgotten at the beginning, but it's come back slowly, and yesterday 2 different people thought I was french until I told them I was english, so that was nice :) Arrived in Bordeaux, then went to a vineyard near bergerac (was super cheap because I knew them kind of) with a swimming pool, then carcassonne, nimes, marseille and then here. Been good fun, but looking forward to coming home.

All this fun-having hasn't been cheap though, total cost for france and spain is ~£1300. eek! So, onto the poker...

Deposited $1400 onto absolute just before I left to take advantage of a special deposit bonus they offered me (70$ free, 420$ bonus, VIP freeroll invitational and entry to the weekly $70k worth $170) which i'm not going to withdraw quite yet. My plan is to play a TON of sngs for a week or 2. I'll be 4-6 tabling 30/40$ games. Mostly 9 and 6-man, but a few multitable sngs too. I have about 2k$ at absolute, so am rolled to play higher, but am going to be cautious, partly because I haven't done all that much 3+tabling (never more than 4 or 5, so we'll have to see how it goes) but also because I think I've realised I need to be overrolled in games to feel confortable. 10 games minimum a day, but really aiming for 20+. So if I can maintain a modest ROI of 10-15%, plus the 15-20$ of bonus I'll clear, that should be an average of ~$100 a day. I'll also be getting rakeback, at 30%. I'll still be playing some mtts too.

So yeah, sngs for a week or two, and then once I've made $500+/cleared a decent amount of the bonus, I'll use my jugdement to decide when to...

Withdraw about $1500 from Absolute and set up an account with fulltilt or pokerstars(any comments on which is better are welcome...) Mainly there for the the mtts, no site I play on offers a decent mtt schedule. It'll be a big change, with 2000+ fields in most tournaments, so I expect the variance is much higher. At pacific I was happy playing mtts that cost a 20th of my bankroll because they were just large sngs really. But I'll be starting with 10$ tourneys (ie. a 150th of my bankroll there) and see how things go. Both of the sites have 180man sngs if I don't fancy massive fields at some point, and I've heard good things about them. I'll continue to play sngs at AP too, until the bonus is cleared/expires.

So thats my grand scheme! Mainly its geared towards playing more mtts, and bigger ones hopefully. I think I could be a fairly good mtt player but with so few of them to play I don't get as much practise as I need. Ideally I'd just like to make back the $2500 I spent on travelling by the time I go to uni in mid-september. Should be fairly doable - I start tomorrow.

Also reading a few blogs has inspired me to get better at cash games...so if I have the time/can be bothered I might try 4-6 tabling 10$ or 25$NL. Meh, I'll see.

Congrats to PFUers, been some great successes whilst I've been away! Idi0 winning an 888.com uk open seat, peeko the poker idol seat (possibly will be the uk open aswell) and a string of $1-4K cashes. Well done all!

Day 4

Ewww. Stayed up late playing the 60k, $150 at absolute after I got a free seat as part of a bonus. Didn't start well, had to fold TT on a 4667 board in a big pot. Nothing much happened until I got KK, raised 1 caller, he open pushes with the flush draw and hits.

Meanwhile in a small 25$ mtt I'm playing I have a massive stack, up to 10x starting stack within the 1st hour, more than double 2nd in chips - down to last 20 from 50 (top 10 pay). Somehow, I bubbled. Lost 3 big pots to the same guy within a space of about 10 hands:
6 handed, blinds 150/300. I have 22k.
1) I raise in mp with 7c5c. BB (with 4k) calls.
Flop comes: 862, 1 club.
He checks, I bet 1200, he shoves i call. He has J8o and I brick.

2) Blinds 200/400
I have 16k, the same villain has 7k.
I have KTo on button, villain limps utg, I limp, blinds complete/check.

Flop 79T(r)
blinds check, villain shoves (he may even have held up a little sign saying 'i have an 8' - I cant quite remember...)
I call, he flips A8o and rivers a J.

3) Both me and the same villain have about 13k.
Villain in sb, me in bb. Button limps, villain min riases, I call with Qc7c, button calls.

Flop comes 7xJc2c.
Villain leads for 1200, I raise to 4k, button folds villain pushes I call. He flips aces, I brick.

I think Im happy with the way I played them, got my money in ahead the 2nd and 3rd times and had the odds on the first. Still sucks when you cant catch a 15 outer or dodge a 12 outer against the same guy though. Also, the villain plays each hand horribly. At least I have the moral victory.

I'd rather the money though.

Day 3

Fairly mediocre day today. Was going to stop and record a small loss, but decided to play 1 more sng and won it, so a small win instead. I don't feel like im playing at my best, feel restless and distracted. When i get back and have some proper time to put some hours in, and get a laptop to play on, all will be well.

Played a home game with some friends and had a nice time, haven't seen them for ages. Bust out first though, trying to bluff our LAG friend off an ace (He basically told me he had an ace as he called the turn bet) on a k4kk6 board. Apperently raising preflop and betting every street wasnt enough to deter him ;)

Day 2

Good start today, winning 4 HU games in a row, but then had a string of cruel cruel 3 outers on the river to push me down to -$27 for the day. Variance sucks.

Not playing much lately, lots of stuff to do for holidays and such. Got a VIP freeroll to play at AP tonight so hopefully I'll make something back then.

Edit: didnt cash in the freeroll, but came 2nd in a small 25$ mtt for $282. Back in the black! (and back over the $15k mark...)

Day one

Meh, my return to poker didnt go well, ending up bubbling 4 sngs and busting out of 2 mtts early. Then entered a 2.5$ sng by accident and played like a maniac, and of course took it down for a whopping $8.5, lol.

Playing on a mac because of my broken computer, and its terrible, disconnections every 3 hands, and very difficult to navigate. Plus I was trying to book airline tickets, finding out how the WSOP ME ended and watching HSP series 2 which i just downloaded at the same time too, so I probably wasnt playing at my best... Tomorrow will be better.

1st Post!

Hello, finally got around to making myself a poker blog. Mainly doing it because I love talking about poker, and I think I've bored everyone I know to death - while corpses make good listeners, the smell puts me off.

I'm an 18 yr old student on my gap year living in bristol, england. I learnt how to play texas holdem about a year ago, and started playing seriously the beginning of march this year, so all records I put here will be from then - 01/03/07. Since I'm on a gap year and too lazy to get a job I have lots of time (and incentive - i need money) to play - I play pretty much fulltime. Though having said that, I've been on holiday the past month in sunny spain, and am going away for a few more weeks soon, so not much playing recently.

My computer's exploded (hopefully temporarily) so no exact records, but here are some approximates...

I play mtts and sngs, buyins ranging from $30-50 usually. I suck badly at cash. As you can see my bankroll doesn't really reflect the amount I've won, but I've had to withdraw lots for holidays/expenses. Hoping to start actually building the bankroll, and to move to just 1 or 2 sites, my whole bankroll is spread over 4 sites, which means at the moment im not really rolled at any 1 site for the games I want to play.

Well thats about it. Off to play some all-in fests at pacific.
